“What does it take to change the essence of a man?”

When I discovered recently (via Twitter) that Mike Starr had passed away, I thought: “That’s a damn shame. He was one of the great burly, menacing character actors of his generation. I’ll never forget his turns in films as varied and diverse as Goodfellas, Dumb & Dumber and On Deadly Ground.”

So I felt relieved, and then immediately quite guilty, when I found out that it was a different Mike Starr altogether whose clogs had popped.

Here is Mike doing burly and menacing (to begin with, anyway) in the aforementioned On Deadly Ground, with Steven Seagal.  Widely regarded as one of the most ludicrous scenes in cinema history, make sure you stay with this until the very end for an absolute humdinger of a tonal shift.
